Hall & Country Club; Sunday Evening (Rear Entrance:) It is a bright moonlight night and the stars are twinkling like never before. The old, faithful Bedford van that the lads depend on is parked at the bottom of the ramp that leads to the 'back door'. The van has been 'borrowed' off the owner, one 'Orville J Heap' (DJ, Hotelier and entrepreneur) of Llandudno, in order for PHIL to 'keep the show on the road'. The terms and conditions of usage being that it is not utilized for any business activity other than the disco (no taxi-ing, rallying or removals), it is returned promptly (well, in time for the next "gig" at least) and should remain the same shape, colour and overall condition, as stated on the log book. Oh, and no shagging, drinking, chippy wrappers or puking unless all traces are eliminated completely. Apart from the obligatory background "boom - boom - boom" pulse that was quite normally associated with an early, unregulated 70's style mobile disco, it would be quite fair and reasonable to suggest that on the 20 week countdown to Christmas the hymn 'Silent Night' might well be in order. However all is not quite as calm and bright as the hymn might suggest as, through the shadows, it is possible to make out a cavorting couple, camouflaged almost completely in the murky darkness, in varying stages of undress, thrashing about most vigorously and seemingly fully intent on rocking the van until the shock absorbers moaned and groaned against the undue strain (or perhaps that was just the energetic young lovers themselves:). Meanwhile, virtually unnoticed by the “cavorting couple”, another pair of shadowy figures, silently make their way down the ramp carrying a box shaped item. One of them, the steadier on his feet, sneaks a peak at the “cavorting couple”, stifles a barrage of encouraging annotations, smiles and continues to unlock the vehicle with all the stealth and agility of a seasoned pro. and climbs in to the back of the van. The other passes the box shaped object to his colleague and within seconds they are off and away as if they had never existed. |
